Christmas 2017 & PFA Christmas Fair

The PFA will host the annual Christmas Fair on Thursday 7th of December at 7.00pm. They have been working tirelessly preparing for this wonderful event and we wish to thank them for all that they do for our school community.

We are getting very excited for Christmas here at Scoil Mhuire. Our school has been transformed into a winter wonderland.

We wish all of our girls and families a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Vex Robotics 2017/2018

The preparations for the Vex Robotics competition are well and truly under way in Scoil Mhuire. Students from 5th and 6th class have been working on building our Stretch Robot and programming it for competition. The girls have also been researching the use of technology in the everyday lives of people and just how useful it really is. We are learning so much each week and are enjoying every step of the process. We are very proud of the Robotics team and are very excited for the Vex Robotics Primary School competition which will take place in CIT in January 2018.

Are you ready for Halloween?

We are all ready for Halloween at Scoil Mhuire! We had a very exciting day on Friday – children were allowed to dress up for Halloween. Some teachers even joined in the fun. We raised some money for our PFA.

We hope everyone stays safe over the mid term break and has a well deserved rest following all the hard work of September and October!

Skip n Rope!!

Scoil Mhuire had two wonderful days of skipping in September. Mark McCabe from SkipnRope came and introduced his wonderful skipping techniques to each pupil in the school. The girls enjoyed the skipping sessions and it is wonderful to see them practising their skipping skills at lunch break. The aim is to introduce children and teachers to the world of skipping. Skipping is a terrific form of exercise that helps a child’s agility, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and can increase speed through footwork. It teaches children about rhythm and when put into team routines, it provides them with team work skills and encourages them to have confidence in their sporting ability. It is a great way to exercise, maintain good health while having lots of fun. We hope the girls will continue to skip all year long!

A special thank you to our PFA who covered some of the cost of these two wonderful days!

A total of €3,800 worth of books have been purchased in Scoil Mhuire this September and will be enjoyed greatly by the children at home!

Scholastic Books award a voucher worth 60% of this sales figure to Scoil Mhuire to spend on books for our school. We are delighted to have a generous budget this year to boost the books that are available in each of our classroom libraries for all the children to enjoy at school.

Many thanks to those who supported the book fair this September!

Scoil Mhuire Family Walk

The Parents and Friends Association would like you to join us for a fun-filled family walk in the Ballincollig Regional Park on Friday 22nd September at 6:30pm! Our walk will follow the marked Michael O’Donovan Running Route, starting at the Allotments car park.

All children will receive a map of the park at the starting point, and there will be activity stations along the route.

The Scoil Mhuire Family Walk is a fundraising activity; each family is asked to pay €5 to participate.

Important: If you come by car, please use the Allotments Car Park or alternatively the car park at the “new church” (Christ Our Light)! The County Council have asked us not to use the main car park at the western side of the Regional Park.

Let’s hope for a sunny evening on Friday 22nd – but even if the skies are a little overcast, we won’t let that spoil our fun, so bring all the family and join in!!

Welcome Back!

Fáilte Romhaibh go léir! Our school year has got off to a wonderful start! The girls came into school on the first day of term full of their characteristic enthusiasm and good spirit! As a staff we keep saying it: our girls are an absolute pleasure to work with. Thank you for everything you do to make our school community the special place it is. Thank you for your attention to getting your daughter ready for school. It is such important work and you do it every single school day!

A special welcome to our two Junior Infant classes and to their parents: our new pupils have already endeared themselves to us all. We are very impressed with the way they are settling in!

Mise le meas,
Mairéad Ní Mhurchú.
