Scoil Mhuire had two wonderful days of skipping in September. Mark McCabe from SkipnRope came and introduced his wonderful skipping techniques to each pupil in the school. The girls enjoyed the skipping sessions and it is wonderful to see them practising their skipping skills at lunch break. The aim is to introduce children and teachers to the world of skipping. Skipping is a terrific form of exercise that helps a child’s agility, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and can increase speed through footwork. It teaches children about rhythm and when put into team routines, it provides them with team work skills and encourages them to have confidence in their sporting ability. It is a great way to exercise, maintain good health while having lots of fun. We hope the girls will continue to skip all year long!
A special thank you to our PFA who covered some of the cost of these two wonderful days!
A total of €3,800 worth of books have been purchased in Scoil Mhuire this September and will be enjoyed greatly by the children at home!
Scholastic Books award a voucher worth 60% of this sales figure to Scoil Mhuire to spend on books for our school. We are delighted to have a generous budget this year to boost the books that are available in each of our classroom libraries for all the children to enjoy at school.
Many thanks to those who supported the book fair this September!
The Parents and Friends Association would like you to join us for a fun-filled family walk in the Ballincollig Regional Park on Friday 22nd September at 6:30pm! Our walk will follow the marked Michael O’Donovan Running Route, starting at the Allotments car park.
All children will receive a map of the park at the starting point, and there will be activity stations along the route.
The Scoil Mhuire Family Walk is a fundraising activity; each family is asked to pay €5 to participate.
Important: If you come by car, please use the Allotments Car Park or alternatively the car park at the “new church” (Christ Our Light)! The County Council have asked us not to use the main car park at the western side of the Regional Park.
Let’s hope for a sunny evening on Friday 22nd – but even if the skies are a little overcast, we won’t let that spoil our fun, so bring all the family and join in!!
Scoil Mhuire’s Parents and Friends Association organised a really creative fundraiser this year on June 27th! We all really enjoyed the crazy hair day!
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics!! Our senior classes in particular have many opportunities to get involved in applying their scientific and mathematical knowledge to technology and engineering – Coder Dojo, Robotics and the science club being options for children in 4th, 5th and 6th classes.
This year 4th class had a Robotics workshop that they really enjoyed! You can see that they made their own robots and took them on a tour of the school!!
The whole school took a walk to the cinema today – for some it was the highlight of the year!
Many thanks to our Parents and Friends Association who not only helped to fund the trip but helped us to cross the roads safely on the way to the cinema and on our way back.
Pupils in each class had a chance to vote from a selection of films earlier in the week and we finally settled on seeing the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Big Haul”, “Boss Baby” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge”. We made good selections and everyone seemed to enjoy this cinematic experience!
Lots of fun here in school on dry, sunny days! We had a little Teddy Bear’s picnic today, followed by creative drawings on our school yard with mega chalks!
Active school week was a success this year. The whole week was active and fun and sports day was particularly exciting for everyone! We hope you enjoy these snippets of all the fun!
Next week it will be Active School Week here at Scoil Mhuire. We aim to include a variety of fun activities that everyone can enjoy. The girls will need to wear their track suit all week. We have a lot of activities planned, including:
- Dance at 10;
- Dance Fit;
- Jigsaw Relays;
- Teddy Bears Picnic (Infant classes);
- School Circuit;
- Table Tennis (rang 3);
- Run 1k in a day;
- “Sports for All Day” is planned for Tuesday!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some fine weather. Check back on the school blog for reviews of the activities and some pictures of the children in action!
On April 27th we had a scoot/cycle/walk to school day. Our Greenschools Committee is working on our fourth Green Flag, which is “Travel”. The objective of this flag is to raise awareness among children, adults and the wider community about the benefits of walking, cycling, scooting and exercise in general. There are also huge environmental benefits! With the weather on our side and sun shining brightly, we had a great turn out this morning. Below are a sample of photos which show the fun that was had by all.
