Scoil Mhuire achieved the ‘Active School’ Flag in 2020. We are currently renewing this flag and encouraging our pupils to be more active by being physically active and taking care of our minds and bodies. Our Active and Well-being Committee have been working hard to promote healthy minds and healthy bodies in Scoil Mhuire. Activities in our school include Morning Mantras, engaging in PE lessons each week, movement breaks in the classroom, Friendship February, games and sport equipment on the yard at break times and lots more! The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative which recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community, by awarding them with the Active School Flag (ASF). The programme encourages all schools to evaluate their current provision of P.E. and extracurricular sports activities for the children and increases parents’ awareness of facilities, teams and clubs in our area. This is a non-competitive initiative highlighting the importance of physical activity in and sport in schools and communities in which they are based.
